Pirates of the Caribbean Inspired soaps

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I have had an affinity with pirates since I was in middle school. I have read about their brutality, cunning, duplicity, misery and flair. I think the only movie franchise that has even hinted at there being female pirates that were just as cunning, if not more so, than their male counterparts is the Pirates of the Caribbean (TM) by Disney. To say that I haven't been completely enthralled by the series would be a gross understatement. I love Johnny Depp, maniacally so. Geoffrey Rush never disappoints. Now, last Autumn I was inspired by my love of these movies to create a line of soaps, body butters and sundries that I hoped captured some of the nuances of the films and story lines.

I wanted to capture the Black Pearl and the ocean waves with this soap. I do believe that I did this. The soap is scented in Bayberry, a nice masculine and spicy scent, and Crisp Ocean Breeze. Bayberry was a dream to soap with but Crisp Ocean Breeze moved too fast on me again.

I added sparkles to the top because ocean waves seem to glitter in the right lighting and I wanted to add that to this soap.

First up is "It's the Purhl!" I always imagine this being said in that oh-so delicious Captain Jack Sparrow drawl.

Next, is "Hide the Rum!" This is a multi scented batch. The bottom layer is Patchouli E. O., middle is Bay Rum and the top is Black Tea. An all-around spicy scented bar. Rum to me is nasty in that it burns my throat and has a spice to it that I can't name. So, when I came up with this one I decided to "hide" the bay rum in the middle of the bar and used the other two scents to cover up the smell. Of course, the name is inspired by the line that Captain Jack Sparrow says to Gibbs when he spots Elizabeth Swann approaching.

I love the picture of the log. It looks so creamy and wholesome.
Unfortunately the soap heated on me in the refrigerator and thus I have a sunrise halo in the middle of each bar. Most people like it so I can't complain.

This is just a smooth end. Love it.

And then came Miss Swann's Wedding. I thought to use soft colors and florals for this soap due to it being a British wedding in the Caribbean.
These are Melt & Pour soaps scented with Lilac, Pink Grapefruit, Vanilla, Sweet Orange E. O., Jasmine and Lime.

I also wanted to add a few soaps with nautical references since one of Elizabeth's desires was adventure on the open seas.

Calypso's Heart was a fun one to attempt. It didn't come out quite the way that I wanted but I did manage again to convey a Caribbean color scheme that most are familiar with.
Again, Melt and Pour soaps. I was going for more muted colors since Calypso was part of the story but in the background until the end of the 3rd movie. This one is scented with The Chandler's Rose's very own Summer Breeze fragrance. A very soft and wispy blend of Orange, Vanilla and Jasmine.

I buried hearts and flowers in this log for two reasons: 1. The idea of courtship is associated with hearts (one's love and object of love) and flowers for the courtship phase of a love affair. 2. When a loved one is lost at sea or dies at sea flowers are strewn on the water and some poetically say that their heart sunk along with the body of their lover.

Please ignore the meds in the background. :)

And lastly, Mermaid's Tear. This soap didn't come out exactly as I wanted due to Geranium E. O. having a dark green hue but I am more than satisfied with the fragrance.

I wanted a green and blue color scheme to represent the ocean, tears and scales of fish. The outer part of the soap stayed green while the inner part of the soap morphed into a purple (supposed to be blue) and teal (supposed to be green).

I actually cut into this loaf tonight just so I can blog about it. I will leave it to finish drying and then I will clean up the edges. This will be May's soap of the month.

For the rest of the inspired bath and body products there was Barbosa's Apple Salt scrub scented with TCR's Apple, Jacked! fragrance, Caribbean Wedding Body Butter scented with TCR's Summer Orchard fragrance, Calypso's Promise Body Butter scented with TCR's Orange Spice, Good Business Salt Scrub scented with TCR's Mango Mandarin, 1,000 Soles Foot Scrub scented with TCR's Midnight Wishes fragrance and lastly Tia's Touch of Destiny Body Oil scented with Cinnamon, Red Apple, Mango, Papaya and Vanilla.

Next I am researching my Fractured Faerie Tales lines based off of the older tales passed from Europe and Persia.

Update

Good Afternoon!!

Thursday's Sidewalk Vendor Market at the Rosewood Market on Rosewood was a success. I met a lot of great people. Most importantly I was prepared. Nothing was left at home. Yay!! I will post pictures as soon as I find my USB cord for my digital camera. Ugh! I was asked to provide Patchouli soap and Lavender soap. I shall soap these potent fragrances but only in 2 lb batches. They will be ready for purchase by April 11th.

Patchouli Lotion Sticks and Lavender Lotion Sticks will be available on March 28th at the Rosewood Market. Once the heat kicks in body butters will not be sold there due to the heat melting them. I will sell whipped body butters which have an emulsifier that will keep them solid longer.

This month will see the end of the Pirates of the Caribbean inspired soaps. My last one is Mermaid's Tear. This is a heady floral frangrance. I didn't want a seaweed or ocean scent to this soap because I saw more in the mermaid than just her surroundings. I saw a survivor, a lover and a warrior. I wanted to capitalize on the strength of emotion that the movie just hinted at. By the end of the week, I will have posted pictures of the soap. I really hope everyone who is part of the Soap of the Month Club has enjoyed bathing with these soaps as much as I have enjoyed creating them. My next post will be rather lengthy due to posting my soap pics as well as the inspiration behind them.

April will usher in my Fractured Faerie Tales series. I am looking to create soap, body butters and perfumes that are reminiscent of the original tales, before the Grimm Brothers got a hold of them. Very dark, seductive and interesting. I hope that my Body Butter of the Month and Soap of the Month Club members think so as well. Stay tuned.
